Why an Ultrasound Matters
A pregnancy test can confirm the possibility of pregnancy, but it can’t tell you everything you need to know. Understanding the details of your pregnancy helps guide your decisions and can protect your health, especially when considering various options.
Family Life Services provides private ultrasound support to help you learn more about your pregnancy and decide what comes next. Don’t remain in the dark about your health; take advantage of this service and get the information you deserve.
What Ultrasound Can Reveal
An ultrasound uses sound waves to create an image of what’s happening inside your body. This image provides three essential pieces of information that a pregnancy test cannot confirm:
Viability
Is the pregnancy developing? Is there a heartbeat? As many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage; knowing whether the pregnancy is progressing is important before making decisions.
If you have had a miscarriage, you may need medical follow-up to prevent long-term issues and monitor your health.
Gestational Age
How far along are you? This detail matters, especially if you’re considering abortion information, because different options depend on gestational age.
Medical abortion, for example, is FDA-approved through 10 weeks of gestation. Taking abortion drugs after that timeframe is not recommended as it poses additional risks.
Location
Is the pregnancy located in the uterus? If you have an ectopic pregnancy, a condition where the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, you will need immediate medical attention to prevent life-threatening complications.
What to Expect
At your appointment, an advocate will explain what an ultrasound does, why it matters, and help you get scheduled. We’ll also take time to answer your questions, talk through any concerns, and support you as you think about your options.
